The Legion of Mary prays and works for the greater honor and glory of God through helping its members develop an active prayer life in co-operation with the intercession of our Blessed Mother and the direction of Holy Mother Church. Each unit of the Legion of Mary is called a praesidium, which holds a weekly meeting, which includes prayer, discussion and plans of action. Every legionary is required to pray and work toward an ever increasing love for the Virgin Mary, her son, Jesus and the people of the parish.
The website for the Legion of Mary notes that it: "is a lay apostolic association of Catholics who, with the sanction of the Church and under the powerful leadership of Mary Immaculate, Mediatrix of All Graces, serve the Church and their neighbour on a voluntary basis in about 170 countries. ...With the approval and support of the Popes and a great many Bishops, Priests and Religious, as well as the prayers and efforts of legionaries, the Legion, by the grace of God, has grown into a worldwide organization with several million members."
